My journey into bird photography began in 2020, when I picked up a camera and turned it towards the birds around me. What started as curiosity has grown into a lifelong challenge: to photograph as many different bird species as I can.
Every new species I manage to capture goes into my “lifer album” — a 1,000-photo sleeve album I’m slowly filling with record shots and, as I improve, more ambitious photographs. Sometimes that means a basic ID image of an osprey on a branch, other times it’s about pushing for something better — like the osprey mid-dive with a fish in its talons, a shot I’m still chasing.
This site is my way of bringing that journey together. You’ll find:
- Trip diaries from reserves and birding sites across the UK (and occasionally beyond), with notes on what I photographed and learned.
- Photography tips and gear notes — I shoot Sony, but I welcome all setups and experiences.
- Book reviews and reflections — as an avid reader, I’ll share some of the wildlife books that inspire my time in the field.
Above all, I want this to be a welcoming space. The photos I share will always be the best I can achieve at the time, but the joy is in the process of learning, improving, and filling the album one sleeve at a time.
So whether you’re here for birding locations, gear chat, or just to enjoy some wild moments, welcome. Let’s see where this journey takes us — one bird, one frame, one story at a time.
